[Solved] No CD ROM detected by the installer (Debian)
Scribbled on Tuesday, April 8th, 2008Here is my configuration:Intel DG965RY Motherboard
Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz Processor
1 GB RAM 533Hz Transcend
2×180 GB Seagate SATA, 1×80GB Seagate Barracuda
Problem
I was pissed off by the installer not detecting the CD when it comes to the stage where it detects hardware, at the point of detecting CD ROM it simply fails and asks me to load the driver from CD and if I answer no then manually selecting the driver gives me some option but none of the works, at the end of the day no candy for me ![]()
Solution
It worked for me, preferably 965 chipset users will find it useful, what i did to detect CD ROM is given below:
- Went to the BIOS (Press F2 at the system startup) and changed the “Drive Configuration” to “AHCI” instead of “IDE”. So the first step is to change the mode to “AHCI”
- Now boot from the CD as normal, and when presented with boot screen with Debian logo just enter these special boot parameters
install generic.all_generic_ide=1
- Now press enter and this time CD ROM will get detected hopefully :). Enjoy the distro
- Just a word of caution, if u have Windows XP installed too then just change the mode to “IDE” everytime you want to boot into Windows XP (XP doesnt boot with AHCI mode). If you have Windows VISTA then there is no need to change the mode to “IDE”, atleast VISTA is good somewhere
- Happy installation
