Airtel’s narrow broadband policy - How to rip a customer !
Scribbled on Tuesday, February 17th, 2009Petition against Airtel Fair Usage Policy
Sh!t happens and it always happen in here. Airtel recently made up a “Fair Usage Policy” wherein they will try to limit a broadband customer’s usage by lowering the speed of connection if the customer exceeds a certain limit of data transfer. But whats despicable is that the limit is enforced upon the customers with unlimited broadband plans, it means that unlimited plans are not really unlimited. If you go over the bandwidth cap in few days then your data transfer speed will be degraded to a lower plan. How pathetic can it get when you are paying them for unlimited and they are giving you capped data transfer ?

I don’t know know how ironical is the phrase “Fair Usage Policy”. Like as if they are providing the conserved bandwidth to rural areas for free. But it seems they are spinning some wicked plans of milking consumers.
As of now they have exercised this policy in metro cities, and people who are not aware of this change and those who do not know basics will fall prey to these greedy mongers. While other people may try to change their ISP and never look back to Airtel.
Here are the bandwidth caps for unlimited plans:
128 kbps = 10 GB download limit per month
256 kbps = 15 GB download limit per month
384 kbps = 20 GB download limit per month
512 kbps = 25 GB download limit per month
1 mbps = 50 GB download limit per month
This means the customers with unlimited plan of 256 kbps will get reduced speed when he crosses 15GB limit of data transfer. How legitimate it is when you are deliberately given lower than what you paid for.
Here are some users experiences and rage:

Youtube has gone HD and linux users downloading distros and updates, people with online purchase of content and playing multiplayer games will end up reaching this limit within few days and then what after that ?
Broad band is supposed to get cheaper with time but our country is still struggling in providing anything above 256mbps at reasonable price.

Let’s see how the other consumers react to this.
They might actually start thinking about BSNL or MTNL over AIRTEL, especially those UL downloaders.

We need to react very strongly. We cant let these greedy companies exploit us. Either they have to take back this policy or they should stop claiming Unlimited Broadband as it is neither one.

airtel has always done that, I had airtel sim prior, but I found out some errors when they charged my postpaid. They take more money from you without letting you know abt that. They will have to pay for this…if they are doing such to the customers who have faith in them
